چکیده

When liposomes were initially discovered more than 30 years ago, predictions were largely met with skepticism; however, recent advances have allowed the development of liposomes that are potentially medically useful. Systemic and topical drug delivery by liposomes is possible. Although liposomal amphotericin B, a systemic antifungal agent, is the only medical liposomal product commercially available in the United States, there have been considerable advances in liposomal delivery systems with important applications in dermatology. In tbis article, the basic chemistry of liposotnes will be reviewed as well as their potential uses in dermatology. The basic chemistry and a brief overview of methods of preparation will be discussed first. Then we will examine the kinetics of systemic and topical liposomal therapy, as well as hair follicle targeting. Next, the liposomal advances in skin cancer prevention, cancer therapy, and gene therapy will be discussed. Finally, specific liposoma! drugs and drug classes, including topical anesthetics, topical corticosteroids, topical interferon, liposomal amphotericin B, and artificial blood, will be examined. We will not discuss cosmetic applications of liposome preparations.^

State of the art of stimuli-responsive liposomes for cancer therapy

Specific delivery of therapeutic agents to solid tumors and their bioavailability at the target site are the most clinically important and challenging goals in cancer therapy. Liposomes are promising nanocarriers and have been well investigated for cancer therapy. In spite of preferred accumulation in tumors via the enhanced permeability and retention (EPR) effect, inefficient drug release at t...

Evaluation of the clearance characteristics of liposomes in the human nose by gamma-scintigraphy

The nasal cavity possesses many advantages as a site for drug delivery, such as, ease of administration, applicability for long term treatments and a large surface area for absorption. One important limiting factor for nasal drug delivery is the limited time available for absorption within the nasal cavity due to mucociliary clearance. Several drug delivery systems including different kinds of ...

Mucosal Adjuvant Potential of Quillaja saponins and Cross-linked Dextran Microspheres, Co-administered with Liposomes Encapsulated with Tetanus Toxoid

Intranasal vaccination is particularly a striking route for mucosal immunization, due to the ease of administration and the induction of both mucosal and humoral immunity. However, soluble antigens (Ag) are not sufficiently taken up after the nasal administration and need to be co-administered with adjuvants, penetration enhancers or encapsulated in particles. So, in this study, tetanus toxoid ...
